Thayer PD Secures Conviction in School Bus Safety Violation Case

On September 16, 2024, the Thayer Police Department sought public assistance via Facebook to identify a vehicle and driver who disregarded a school bus’s stop sign and crossing arm. Video footage revealed that several children were waiting to cross the road when the incident occurred. One child had already started crossing just before a pickup truck failed to stop, creating a dangerous situation.

Following an investigation, Thayer School Resource Officer Sergeant Bryant issued multiple traffic citations to the driver, who later pleaded guilty in court. However, the driver contested charges related to endangering the welfare of a child, leading to a trial in Thayer Municipal Court. After reviewing the evidence, the court found the driver guilty of these charges.
