Thayer teen dies in traffic accident

According to Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), 17-year-old died Tuesday (2/2) after the truck he was riding in ran off the road and struck a tree.

According to the MSHP crash report, a 14-year-old female from Koshkonong was driving the truck when its tire dropped off the right side of the roadway, the truck was overcorrected, and ended up traveling off the road and struck a tree. She was taken by ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains for treatment of her injuries.

Her passenger, a 17-year-old male from Thayer, was taken to a Springfield hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The accident happened at 1 a.m. Tuesday on Oregon County Road 328, two miles east of Koshkonong.

This is Troop G’s fourth fatality accident of 2021.
