The City of West Plains issued a peak alert from noon to 7 p.m. Today, Wednesday, and Thursday due to extreme temperatures. During this time please be mindful and conserve as much power as possible.
According to the National Weather Service, afternoon temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 90s over the next three days.
Ozark Radio News spoke with Jeff Hanshaw, Public Works Director of the City of West Plains about peak alerts.
“What a peak alert does is that it could potentially set a new threshold for the city, and therefore it would cost the city more money going forward to supply electric to customers, which would, in turn, raise customers’ costs. So a peak alert is where we’re asking customers to maybe raise their thermostats or reduce their electric use during peak times of the day.”
If possible, raise your thermostats a few degrees and turn off any unnecessary lights and electronics.
