West Plains, MO. – Today, Eddie Young with the Missouri State Highway Patrol stepped into the Ozark Radio News studio to talk about the inherent dangers present with the upcoming storms, and things to keep in mind as it moves in.
As with any winter storm, it’s important to remember that your vehicle is not made for sub-zero temperatures; engines can have trouble starting when the air gets so cold.
In addition to this, with the type of snow expected could cause visibility troubles on the roadway, causing further chances for collision along with possible loss of traction on the roadway.
Those who have time before the storm should also be mindful of their emergency supples in the event of getting stuck. Make sure you have blankets, flashlights, and warm clothing any time you leave the house. Also make sure you inform friends, family, or other loved ones of your plans and locations if you leave home.
Most of all, if you don’t have to leave your home, don’t do so until after the storm has moved on and MoDOT crews are able to clear the roads.
Lastly, if you find yourself stuck, call *55 or 911 to put you in contact with local emergency dispatchers who can send help to your location.
