The incident began on December 10th, just after noon, when the suspect’s vehicle, a Kia with an Arizona license plate, was seen traveling down Highway 63 near Cabool. According to the probable cause statement, Police Chief Jerald Sigman pursued the suspect’s vehicle until it was abandoned on a property near Highway PP. A foot chase ensued through a field and a wooded area, eventually ending with the suspect’s capture.
The suspect, Ronald Lee Baum, 36 of Houston, was arrested. It was later discovered that Baum also had active warrants out of Phelps County, as well as a suspended driver’s license.
Baum faces charges including Aggravated Fleeing, Driving While Revoked, Resisting Arrest, and False Impersonation.
When asked why he fled, Baum claimed he didn’t run but was “just jogging across a field.”
