For those wondering why these burns take place, the National Park Service states that these burns are ignited in order to manage and reduce the amount of hazardous fuel loads in developed areas, including underbrush and leaves, in order to reduce overall fire risks. In addition, this is also done to manage landscapes and for possible research purposes.
