Missouri – Today, June 20, 2024, is the summer solstice, which marks the official beginning of Summer.
This summer solstice is the first one this early in 228 years. While the summer solstice can fall between June 20th and June 22nd, it hasn’t been this early since June 20, 1796, when George Washington was president.
Fun fact, this Summer Solstice is extra special because it is happening right before June’s Strawberry Moon. This means the moon will be the lowest it will be all year, making it appear extremely bright and full.
Remember as summer is officially here, pay attention to the heat. Heat can be extremely harmful to your body, causing illness and sometimes can even take a life. Heat kills more individuals than any other weather event including storms, tornadoes, and lightning. Older adults and young children are more likely to experience heat-related illnesses. If you see any signs of these illnesses call 911 or get yourself to a doctor immediately.
