Traffic Stop For Speeding Ends Up In Drug Bust And Arrest Of A Woman With An Active Arrest Warrant

Douglas County, MO. – A man and woman were arrested during a routine traffic stop due to speeding after they were busted with drugs. On August 2, 2024, John Matlick, of Wentzville, and Tanya Kirk, of Bowling Green, were arrested with multiple charges each.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle that was traveling 80 mph in a 60 mph zone. Upon contacting the individuals in the vehicle, the deputy observed the driver and the passenger exhibiting signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. While running their IDs through the database, he found that Kirk had an active arrest warrant out for her arrest. The deputy approached the vehicle again and asked if either individual possessed illegal narcotics within the vehicle, to which both responded no and granted the deputy consent to search their vehicle. While searching the vehicle they found drug paraphernalia and drugs in the storage department. Both individuals denied knowledge of the drugs and the glass pipe drug-smoking device.
