Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest on Drug Charges

Ava, MO. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested one earlier this month on a suspected DWI, and felony charges came about as a result.

On January 5th, Deputy Joe Dering began a traffic stop on Highway 5 for a suspected DWI. The driver was identified as Josh Wood, a 43-year-old Nixa resident. A field sobriety test was performed. Wood was taken into custody for DUI, and a K-9 unit was deployed on Wood’s vehicle.

K-9 York was deployed and alerted to the vehicle. A search was performed, which revealed two firearms, one was a 9mm Taurus handgun which was reported as being stolen from Ozark County. In addition, Wood was found to be a convicted felon, making his ownership of any firearm illegal. After being taken into custody and taken to the Douglas County Jail,  Wood was found trying to dispose of a meth pipe which he had concealed.

Wood is facing several felony charges, including Stealing, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He is also facing one DWI misdemeanor charge.
