Trial date set for West Plains woman charged with 67 counts of Forgery

West Plains, MO. –The West Plains woman charged with 67 counts of forgery and other felonies from her time employed with a local fence company is scheduled to go to trial next month.

Makenzie Smith has a jury trial set for February 27, 2024, at the Howell County Courthouse before Judge Robert Ray. Smith is charged with Stealing $25,000 or more, 67 counts of Forgery, Stealing $750 or more, and Fraudulent Use of a Credit or Debit Device. She pled not guilty to the charges in January 2023.

According to the probable cause statement, the fence company owners had discovered Smith used multiple methods to have stolen $51,612.42 during the 18 months she had been employed.

The fence company has also brought a civil suit against Smith.
