Press Release from the Willow Springs Police Department:
On August 27, 2026, at approximately 4:00 PM, Willow Springs Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Center Street and Valley Street regarding two young children who were observed walking unattended.
Upon arrival, officers located two boys, both approximately two years of age. A concerned citizen had observed the children walking unattended and secured them in her vehicle while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement.
While officers were investigating the circumstances, they were approached by an employee of Cub Club Daycare, located at 308 S. Harris Street. The employee advised officers that the two children were enrolled at the daycare and had apparently wandered away from the facility while the children were outside.
Officers accompanied the employee back to the daycare, where the children were confirmed to be enrolled. The employee, identified as Alyssa Breidt, advised officers that she had been outside supervising approximately ten children when the two boys left the area through an open gate. Breidt stated she did not see the children leave.
The investigation determined that the children had been away from the daycare for approximately 30 minutes. Their absence was discovered when one of the children’s parents arrived at the daycare to pick him up and the child could not be located.
Officers contacted the owner of Cub Club Daycare, identified as Alisa Altermatt. During the investigation, Altermatt and Breidt confirmed that the gates surrounding the outdoor area were secured using only a carabiner. Officers also reviewed available surveillance video as part of the investigation.
Following the investigation, Alyssa Breidt and Alisa Altermatt were each charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the Second Degree, RSMo § 568.050.
Fortunately, both children were located safely and were returned to their parents.
The Willow Springs Police Department would like to thank the citizen who observed the children, took steps to keep them safe, and immediately contacted law enforcement.
