Two Salem Missouri residents were injured early Saturday morning in a rear‑end collision west of town. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 7:35 AM on Highway 72, about four miles west of Salem.
Troopers report that both vehicles were westbound when a 2019 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 54‑year‑old woman from Salem, slowed to make a left turn. A 2014 Nissan Altima, driven by a 16‑year‑old juvenile from Salem, then struck the rear of the Sonata.
Both vehicles were totaled. The Altima was towed by Whitaker’s Towing, while the Sonata was removed by American Automotive.
The juvenile driver sustained minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Salem Memorial Hospital. The 54‑year‑old driver also suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to the same facility. Both were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
