Salem, MO. – If you were around Salem, MO. or Winona yesterday, you might have seen excessive smoke around areas of the Mark Twain National Forest. This is because two wildfires were being fought in separate areas of the Mark Twain National Forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The announcement came yesterday evening just after six. The first fire was listed as being at Beason Hollow, roughly 15 miles southwest of Salem, with expectations of size to be at 650 acres.
The second fire was listed as being at the Barn Log, located roughly 10 miles south of Winona. That fire was expected to reach a size of 400 acres by the end of the day.
While these fires were expected to grow rather large, views on firefighting efforts have been optimistic, and officials have stated that there will likely be no updates to the fires, unless significant growth occurs.
