Valentine’s Law Takes Effect, Receives Statewide Attention After Officer Death

Missouri – Valentine’s Law, named after a St. Louis Detective who was killed in the line of duty, went into effect at the end of last month. This law effectively makes fleeing from law enforcement and creating substantial risk a punishable felony, raising the stakes for those who try to flee from arrest.

This law is receiving additional attention after the recent death of an officer with Osage Beach, Phylicia Carson, a 33-year-old officer, who passed away after a crash that happened during a pursuit on August 31st.
