Van Buren, MO. – On Tuesday, March 29, a Van Buren R-1 student made a verbal threat towards the school. Van Buren Police and district administration identified the student and the student was detained by law enforcement Tuesday night.
Dr. Clay LaRue, Superintendent of Van Buren R-1, said in an email on Wednesday that, even though the threat had been neutralized, additional law enforcement will be on campus out of an abundance of caution.
“Parents, please talk with your child about the consequences of threats against our school” Dr. LaRue stated. “Any and all threats, including pranks, will be taken seriously, including police charges. Remind your child that if they see or hear anything that threatens the safety of students or staff, they should tell a trusted adult.”
