Van Buren, MO. – In the aftermath of natural disasters, scammers will frequently come out of the woodwork to do their business. This happened in Carter County, and one woman was arrested as a result.
Diane Carter was found to be impersonating an official from FEMA after recent flooding events. She was taken into custody by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office on April 8th, and is currently being held on a bond of $25,000, cash/surety.
The Carter County Sheriff’s Office released an address over this arrest, stating “here in Carter County, we will not tolerate anyone who attempts to exploit tragedy.”
