Cabool, MO. – Today, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., those who reside in the City of Cabool will vote on an issue regarding the state of funding for local emergency response departments.
This sales tax question will see a potential increase of a half-cent sales tax on all retail goods purchased within the City of Cabool. The revenue that this tax will generate is intended to be funneled back into the Cabool Police and Fire Departments.
The Cabool Police Department has stated that the need for this tax is threefold: the increase in costs of training, equipment, and officer retention has made it more difficult for these agencies to operate.
One major example of this was pointed out in the last year and a-half, the Cabool Police Department has lost five officers, with three of those simply moving to better-paying positions elsewhere.
We spoke to patrolman Carey Sigman, who gave us a short summary on the issues surrounding the question.
This sales tax will pass with a majority vote. Voting will take place at the Cabool High School gym.
