West Plains, MO. – Senior at West Plains High School Matthew Simons has recently won a full tuition scholarship to Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri. Simons competed in “Central’s Got Talent”, a musical talent competition that is hosted yearly at CMU.
The West Plains senior was one of six finalists that competed. Two winners were selected, the other winner was Wesley Miner of Fayette. The two winning students will receive a full-tuition scholarship worth over $100,000. Simons will still be required to pay for books, room & board, and other expenses.
Simons and his mother, Samantha, dropped by the Ozark Radio News studios and spoke about the competition:
Matthew Simons is an accomplished clarinet player with the West Plains Zizzer Pride Band. He will attend CMU for Music Education with the hope of becoming a Band Instructor like his teachers at West Plains, Rocky Long, Curtis Stalker, and Melody Alford, as well as his private instrument tutor and CMU Alumni, Jim Williamson.
