The City of Willow Springs Board of Alderman, with the recommendation of the City Administrator, Beverly Hicks, made a unanimous decision at last night’s council meeting not to open the City pool for the 2020 season to help mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
City Administrator, Beverly Hicks stated, “Although we expect the government to start relaxing the “stay-at-home” orders soon, we believe that the social distancing and limitations of group sizes will remain in effect for quite some time, even maybe until a vaccine is developed and distributed. This will make it impossible to train staff, control gatherings and to keep the facility sanitized constantly. I have been listening to the medical professionals from every level and their consistent message is that it will be sometime before we can go back to “normal” and we must be aware of what we are doing, how we are doing it, where we are going and what effect will our actions have on the community. Decisions like these are hard to make, but we must base our decision on the betterment of the community and do what we can to protect the health and safety of our residents.”
The City will use this opportunity during this summer to address some maintenance concerns of the pool, bringing in a professional contractor to assess those issues and make recommendations to the City for repair.
