Public health experts with the One for All Missouri campaign would like to share the following reminders to help Missourians understand who COVID-19 can affect and how people of all ages can help stop the spread.
- COVID-19 can affect people of all ages. We all need to take steps to prevent catching and spreading the virus.
- Experts continue to learn more about this new virus. COVID-19 can be a prolonged illness and have lasting effects in young people.
- In a CDC study of 18-34-year-old patients with no chronic medical conditions, one in five had not returned to their usual state of health two to three weeks after testing positive for COVID-19.
- Although less common, children are also at risk of developing severe illnesses and complications from COVID-19.
- Children 18 and younger should adhere to recommended guidelines for COVID-19 treatment and prevention:
- Children over the age of two should wear a mask in public.
- Children who have been exposed to COVID-19 should quarantine at home.
- Children should receive their regular vaccinations and a flu vaccine this year.
- We all need to continue doing our part to protect people of all ages from COVID-19:
- Stay home as much as possible and limit going out to only necessary outings.
- If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, stay home, isolate from others, and contact your health provider.
- Practice physical distancing and stay at least 6-feet away from people you do not live.
- Wear mask in public to protect yourself and people who are more at risk, including older adults and people with preexisting conditions.
