West Plains Awarded $2.62 Million In Funds For Housing Development

West Plains, MO. – The City of West Plains was awarded $2.62 million in CDBG funds for the Garner Villas Housing Development. The City announced that this has been worked on since the housing shortage caused by the 2017 flooding.
All funds will be going to support the construction of new, high-quality housing units that are being dubbed the Garner Villas Phase II. These houses are being built next to the Garner Villas Phase I project, which is a series of 48-unit developments for residents aged 55 and older. Sixteen new two-bedroom units will be constructed.

“We are thrilled to move forward with the next phase of Garner Villas,” said West Plains Mayor Mike Topliff. “These funds will help us address a critical need for housing in our community, especially in light of the continued recovery efforts from the 2017 floods.”

To celebrate the funding, the CDBG Program Manager Brandon Jenson will officially announce the $2.62 million award on October 23, 2024, at the Garner Villas Community Building. The City of West Plains is inviting the public to join them in marking the occasion and to learn more about future housing development. This will take place at 9 a.m.
