A zoning change to lots owned by the West Plains Country Club was made during the Tuesday West Plains City Council meeting that will allow the construction of additional billboards.
The change will allow the country club to construct two new digital billboards at the intersection of Gibson Street/CC and US 63. The change was necessary to meet MoDOT regulations and needed approval by the council.
Another change was agreed upon by the council to annex a section of property owned by Seth and Mallory Johnson into the city limits. The section annexed is located on Luna Drive for potential homes to be built.
Other business included the passage of Resolution 2023-12 that terminated the lease between the City and Heart of the Ozarks Alcoholics Anonymous concerning the Lincoln Park building. The AA group had agreed in 2017 to repair/replace the roof on the building and had not done so in the following five years. The resolution placed exclusive possession of the park and building with Crockett and Tonya Oaks.
The City Council also heard new resolutions including a donation of an electronic marquee from the West Plains Civic Center to the City of Alton, a request by the West Plains School District for permission to use a pellet gun on campus for the eradication of groundhogs, a cooperative agreement between the City and the West Plains Public Library, a pole attachment agreement with Brightspeed, and an abatement order between the City and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources concerning Missouri Clean Water Law violations.
