West Plains City Utilities Gives a Recap on Power Outages

Yesterday’s storms that moved through West Plains resulted in 1,317 customers losing power, impacting multiple circuits served by the Lanton and Lincoln Substations. While the outages were primarily concentrated in the south-central part of town, some locations in the northeastern part of town were also affected.

The widespread outages were primarily caused by high winds and lightning, which resulted in leaning and broken utility poles, tree limbs contacting power lines, and blown high-voltage fuses that disconnected power to customers.

Crews initially responded to approximately 217 customers without power around 5:40 p.m. As the storm progressed through town, the number of affected customers increased to 1,317 by 7:00 p.m. By 9:00 p.m., crews had restored power to all but 120 customers before additional outages were reported. Currently, power has been restored to all customers.

City of West Plains Utilities will continue to monitor incoming weather and respond to outages as reports are received.
