The Championship game for the Lady Zizzers happened today, where they played against the same people they squared off against last season and lost to. The first quarter was a showcase of both teams trying hard to take home the biggest win of the season. Most of the quarter showed both sides keeping pace until the Zizzers started to pull ahead and end the first quarter with a nice lead of 14 to 7. The second quarter continued this grudge match with both teams being a little less accurate with their starting shots, but the Zizzers still managed to topple the defense of the Whitfield Warriors leading to a half-time score of Zizzers: 24, Warriors: 15.
The third quarter proved to be a more difficult time for the Lady Zizzers, with Whitfield getting several points and catching up when the scores hit 29 to 29 with 2:20 left. At this point, both teams kept their scores even until the end, with the Zizzers maintaining their lead by only 2 points, 31 to 29. The fourth and final quarter would show the final winners of the Championship. Zizzers defense proved pivotal in getting an early lead in the fourth, bringing them up to 37 to 29 at a time-out called early. The West Plains team kept their momentum going, but Whitfield tried hard to keep up pace; with 80 seconds left in the game, the score was 44 to 37. With the Lady Zizzers maintaining their lead and never losing it through each quarter of the game, they took home the game with a total of 50 to 37.
Congratulations to the West Plains Lady Zizzers for taking home the win, and becoming the Class 5 State Champions!
