West Plains native promoted to lieutenant, assistant director of Division of Drug & Crime Control

West Plains, MO. – A West Plains native has received a promotion and more, effective March 1, 2023. Sergeant Garrett J. Loring of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is being promoted to lieutenant and designated assistant director of the Division of Drug & Crime Control at the General Headquarters in Jefferson City, MO.

Loring was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a member of the 86th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Academy in July 2007, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 2, North St. Louis County. In April 2009, he transferred to Troop G, Zone 3, Northern Howell and Shannon counties. He was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of that zone in 2013. Loring was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Troop G, Zone 1, Wright County, in June 2016. He transferred to the Division of Drug & Crime Control in September 2017, as a criminal investigator. In July 2021, Loring became a criminal investigator supervisor.

Lieutenant Loring grew up in West Plains, MO, and graduated from West Plains High School in 2002. In May 2004, he graduated from Missouri State University with an Associate of Arts. He completed Leadership in Police Organizations training in July 2016. Lt. Loring and his wife, Lacey, have two children, Khloe and Grayden.
