West Plains PD Release Public Statement on Suicidal Male

West Plains, MO. – The West Plains Police Department released an official statement on a case last week where a male was attempting to commit suicide by appearing threatening to law enforcement.

This happened on September 13th at roughly 11pm, with police responding to the 600 block of 1st Street. The male admitted to brandishing a knife around in an effort to force law enforcement to kill him. After around 45 minutes of crisis negotiation techniques being implemented, the male was taken into custody without any harm coming to anyone on-scene.

The male subject was then afterward taken to Ozarks Healthcare for treatment. His identity has been kept anonymous.

The West Plains PD further expressed their gratitude to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
