The West Plains Police Department has released the following statement:
On May 25th, 2022, at 1:21 pm, officers with the West Plains Police Department were dispatched for a multi-vehicle traffic crash located in the area of U.S. Highway 63 and State Route 17, in West Plains, Missouri.
The caller advised a semi-truck and trailer had collided with a car. The officers that arrived in the area found the semi-truck and trailer overturned onto a car. They also found an
SUV with heavy damage in the intersection.
It was later learned that the semi was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 63 and struck the SUV in the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and State Route 17. The semi then overturned onto the car which was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 63.
The occupants of the semi had no visible injuries. Two occupants of the SUV were transported to a local hospital for minor to moderate injuries. One of the occupants of the car was transported in critical condition to a hospital in Springfield. Three other occupants of the car were fatalities.
This case is still under investigation.
