The West Plains Police Department is announcing their plan to establish an Explorer Program within the department. The Department is very excited in bringing the Explorer Program to the agency to continue their efforts to partnership with community youth.
The program is still in its infancy, but the goal is to establish the guidelines and application process during the 2020/2021 School Year and by next Spring to hold an Explorer Academy for those selected.
As Police Chief of the West Plains Police Department, I am pleased to invite those interested in the Explorer Program to participate in this exciting program that is being formed with a select group of young adults who share an interest in law enforcement careers.
The participants will have the opportunity to pursue their interest in law enforcement by working closely with my officers. In addition, participants will have the opportunities for service, social and other activities. Chief Monticelli has selected Officer Amanda Ohlau as the coordinator of the new program. Amanda herself served as a Police Explorer at the Kirkwood, Missouri Police Department for five years prior to becoming a member of the West Plains Police Department in 2019.
Please keep an eye on future announcements and to the West Plains Police Department’s Facebook for additional information on the status of the program.
