The family of Zizzer athlete Lexi Williams was presented a check at the West Plains R-VII School Board meeting Tuesday night. Recent fundraising events brought the total to just over $15,000 to help cover medical expenses after Lexi was diagnosed with a virus that caused her immune system to attack her nervous system, resulting in paralysis. Lexi is recovering well and is even back at school.
Lexi’s Father, Michael Williams, told those in attendance that he had concerns about how they would pay for medical costs, but those doubts had been relieved by the generosity of so many people coming together to help the family. Lexi’s mother, Kayla Williams, said that they are originally from Tennessee, but that everyone has welcomed them and made it feel like home since being in West Plains.
