West Plains, MO. – A student from the West Plains School District recently managed to pull off a once-in-a-lifetime event as they secured a spot to play music in a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The West Plains School District proudly announces the outstanding achievement of Lilia Bennington, a junior trombonist from the West Plains High School Band, who achieved an extraordinary milestone by securing a coveted spot in the esteemed ensemble of the Honors Performance Series Concert Band at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Lilia’s remarkable talent and dedication to her craft have propelled her to emerge as a Distinguished Finalist following a highly competitive audition process that attracted submissions from exceptionally gifted students across North America.
On February 10, 2024, Lilia took center stage at Carnegie Hall’s renowned Perelman Stage, delivering nothing short of an extraordinary performance. This remarkable milestone marks the second time a West Plains High School student has been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall with this prestigious ensemble.
The Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall serves as a platform to unite some of the most gifted young musicians from across the continent, providing an unparalleled opportunity to showcase their talents globally. As a Finalist, Lilia Bennington represented not only herself but also her school and community on this iconic stage. This achievement is a testament to Lilia’s exceptional talent and unwavering dedication to music.
While in New York City, Lilia rehearsed with the Honors Band seven hours each day. Students toured Rockefeller Center, Central Park, and had a dinner cruise on the Hudson River. Lilia Bennington commented on her experience in New York City, “Performing in Carnegie truly changed my life and has brought me closer to fulfilling my dream of playing professionally. It was an honor to be able to represent my school on stage. Thank you to everyone who was generous and helped me get there.”
