Each year, the West Plains School District provides students, staff, and families with the opportunity to honor employees who make a difference through the Educator of the Year and the Alumnus of the Year programs.
The deadline to make a nomination is Friday, March 5.
The honorees of these programs exemplify what it means to be part of the Zizzer community.
Educator of Year
When you hear the phrase “educator of the year,” who comes to mind? Nominate your favorite educator for the West Plains School District 2021 Educator of the Year Award now.

Eligibility
- The nominated teacher must have five years of teaching experience.
-The nominated teacher must have two years of teaching experience in the West Plains School District.
-Must be a full-time, fully certified teacher, school librarian, guidance counselor, or instructional coach (principals and other administrators are ineligible)
- Candidates should be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled teacher who plans to continue an active teaching status.
- Candidates should have the respect and admiration of students, parents and colleagues, inspiring students of all backgrounds and abilities
- Candidates should be poised and articulate, having the energy to withstand a busy schedule.
- Candidates should play active roles in their communities, providing service and leadership in civic, religious or humanitarian activities
Awards and Activities
District level:
- A personal award of $500 in Chamber Bucks from the West Plains Education Foundation.
- Recognition at the Employee Recognition Program on Thursday, April 23rd.
- Personalized Plaque
State level:
- Recognition and award by Missouri School Public Relations Association
- Recognition and award provided by the Boeing Company.
- Banquet hosted by Missouri State Board of Education
- Ceremonies with the governor and legislators
Alumnus of the Year

The goals of the Zizzer Academic Hall of Fame are as follows:
- To provide positive role models for the students in the West Plains School District.
2. To recognize achievements of West Plains Zizzer alumni related to the academic programs of the district.
In order to qualify for induction, a nominee…
- Must have a diploma from West Plains High School, earned at least 10 years prior to nomination (graduating in the class of 2008 or earlier).
2. Must have a degree from an institute of higher learning and/or extensive experience in his/her career field.
3. Must have made, or currently making a positive contribution to society.
It is encouraged that the nomination and additional materials cover the following four areas:
- The nominee has successfully pursued higher education or has extensive career experience.
2. The nominee has made or is currently making a positive contribution to society.
3. The nominee has characteristics to be a positive and motivating example to students.
4. The nominee has characteristics to represent West Plains Schools and its academic programs well.
