Officials with the West Plains Sunrise Rotary Club set goals for the coming year.
Jack Bates, West Plains Sunrise Rotary Club President, recently addressed the club and spoke about what he hopes to accomplish during his time as club president. Most notably, Bates said he hopes that at least 75% of the club will become Paul Harris Fellows. This not only helps local efforts, but worldwide efforts as well. The Paul Harris Society recognizes Rotary members and friends of The Rotary Foundation who elect to contribute $1,000 or more each year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, or approved global grants. The purpose of the Paul Harris Society is to honor and thank individuals for their generous, ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation.
Additionally, the club has agreed to distribute 120 packs each week through the Backpack Program. The West Plains Rotary Backpack Program serves area elementary age kids by sending a pack of food home each weekend to help kids who might not have enough food at home. The Rotary Backpack Program has grown every year, now reaching more than 100 backpacks issued every week that school is in session, as well as extra food for school breaks. The program focuses on need at the elementary level, and currently serves 6 area schools.
Lastly, Bates said he hopes to achieve the Presidential Citation again, and host one or two fun social events during the year. Bates stated, “these are big goals, but together we can achieve them. I look forward to continuing the tremendous success of the West Plains Sunrise Rotary Club.”
