West Plains woman charged with 67 counts of forgery to go to trial in October

West Plains, MO. – The West Plains woman charged with 67 counts of forgery and other felonies from her time employed with a local fence company will go to trial a little over a year after her arrest.

Makenzie Smith has a jury trial beginning October 4, 2023, at the Howell County Courthouse before Judge Robert Ray. Smith is charged with Stealing $25,000 or more, 67 counts of Forgery, Stealing $750 or more, and Fraudulent Use of a Credit or Debit Device. She pled not guilty to the charges in January 2023.

According to the probable cause statement, the fence company owners had discovered Smith used multiple methods to have stolen $51,612.42 during the 18 months she had been employed. Smith was arrested on September 19, 2022, and, according to online court documents, has been out on bond since September 21st.
