Woman Facing Charges After Crash That Fatally Injured West Plains Man In December

West Plains, MO. – According to recent court filings, a West Plains resident is facing charges for a DWI after a crash that fatally injured Brian Powell in December of 2023. 

According to the original Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report and our previous article, the crash occurred on December 23, 2023, at 4:40 a.m. on Route ZZ, 8 miles east of West Plains. Taylor Hamby, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, ran off the road, struck three fences, and overturned in a field. In the crash, 28-year-old Brian Powell, a West Plains resident, was fatally injured, and two 18-year-olds, Dakota Weet and Calvin Brashers, were injured. During questioning, Hamby admitted to drinking 5 to 7 beers before getting behind the wheel.

On May 29, 2024, a case was put in to charge 20-year-old Taylor Hamby with DWI- death of another, and two counts of DWI- physical injury.
