WP Council Votes Against Rezoning Request

On a snowy Tuesday evening, the West Plains City Council denied a rezoning request from Avery Grant to convert five residential lots in Morrison Subdivision to multifamily zoning. Residents living near the property addressed multiple concerns with the proposal, ranging from physical impact on neighboring properties to potential property value decline, as well as the personal impact on property owners who would have had the proposed multifamily units within view from their property.

West Plains Planning and Zoning Commission considered Grant’s rezoning request in early January and recommended denial of the application. City staff reviewed the plan for consistency with the City of West Plains Comprehensive Land Use Plan and found it is not consistent with the Future Land Use Plan. All council members voted against the proposal, with the exception of Johnny Murrell, who voted in favor of the plan.
