WPPD arrests man wanted in assault case

Sunday, at approximately 9:52 AM, the West Plains Police Department received a call through 911 about a male who had called in and was confused and hard to understand. Howell County 911 reported the male was at Casey’s General Store on Preacher Roe Blvd.

West Plains Dispatch researched the suspicious male’s phone number in the Police Department database and realized the phone number belonged to 45 year old Darren L. Break who was currently wanted for several violent felonies including 1st Degree Domestic Assault.

While officers were en route to Preacher Roe Blvd, dispatch relayed to the officers the location of the male, believed to be Break, had updated and was in the 400 block of East 2nd Street. Officers re-routed and arrived in the area at 10:06 AM. The officers quickly located the male and, after confirming the male was Break, he was taken into custody without incident at 10:17 AM.

Break was arrested on probable cause for one count of Domestic Assault 1st Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Felonious Restraint, Armed Criminal Action, and Sodomy. Break was transported to the Howell County Detention Facility and placed on a 24 hour hold pending formal charges from the Howell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
