WPPD shares cold weather tips

With cold weather starting to move into the Ozarks, the West Plains Police Department would like to share some tips to help during the frigid winter months.

  • Watch or read the weather report and dress accordingly, even if you are not going to be outdoors very long.
    • Frost bite and hypothermia can be serious health hazards which do not take long to set in.
  • Never use your stove or oven to heat your home.
    • This can create a fire hazard as well as a safety hazard for children.
  • Use a remote start or spare key to start and warm up vehicles in the morning.
    • Make sure the vehicle is locked after starting.
  • Have a winter survival kit prepared in case of extended power outages.
    • Include things such as jackets, gloves, blankets, phone charger, water, flashlight, etc.

The men and women of the West Plains Police Department want everyone to stay safe this winter season. We are always ready and able to assist; day and night.
