Independence, MO — Today, Lucas Kunce issued the following statement after Josh Hawley blocked legislation that would protect access to IVF, just like he did only months ago.
“Should Missourians be surprised that Josh Hawley voted against the Right to IVF Act for a second time? No. Do they have every right to be disappointed? Yes,” said Lucas Kunce. “Josh Hawley just sent a clear message to Missouri women and couples who’ve relied on IVF to build their families: They are not worth protecting. To Josh, politicians should be in control of their lives, their bodies, and even how they build their families.”
The bill Hawley blocked included provisions to require insurance companies to cover fertility treatments, mirroring many of former President Donald Trump’s recent statements. Kunce recently endorsed Trump’s IVF plan, promising to work to enact it alongside the Right to IVF Act once elected.
With abortion on the ballot in Missouri this November alongside the U.S. Senate race, Josh Hawley is in an especially vulnerable position — given his uniquely bad record on reproductive freedom which includes voting against IVF and the Right to Contraception. Voters are more motivated than ever to protect their reproductive rights, and by extension, their lives. |
