Missouri Woman Denied Prescription Medication After Miscarriage, Lucas Kunce Responds

Kansas City, Missouri — Last week, a Missouri woman was denied prescribed medication after she suffered a miscarriage from a desired pregnancy. Frustrated, Dr. Natasha Ahmed, the woman’s Ob-Gyn, took to Facebook to warn people that Missouri’s abortion ban endangers women’s lives. Less serious complications of early pregnancy loss left untreated can evolve into a number of major health complications including sepsis “or even death” as we have seen in other states with extreme abortion laws. While abortion is legal in Kansas, women in Missouri face a total abortion ban without exception for rape and incest.

Dr. Ahmed received a fax from the pharmacy stating that “Under Missouri law medication abortion is now illegal. Please advise patient to fill across Kansas border.” She told reporters, “Unfortunately, medicine has become very political and when it affects my patients, it’s hard not to speak up and speak out.”

“Dr. Ahmed’s dedication to her patient, a Missouri woman suffering a miscarriage after a wanted pregnancy, is truly admirable. Josh Hawley’s total abortion ban has created extremely dangerous circumstances for pregnant women — criminalizing women for seeking abortions, stopping doctors from doing their jobs in emergency medical situations, and even preventing women from obtaining medication after a miscarriage as seen in this case,” said Lucas Kunce. “This November, we’re going to pass Amendment 3 and defeat Josh Hawley so we can codify Roe — that’s what it will take to make sure this kind of thing never happens again.”
