Amy Lorene Adams

Amy “Lorene” Adams (nee’ Hatman) went to be home with her Savior Jesus Christ on December 20,2020 at the age of 98. She passed at the Alden Estates of Northmoor in Chicago, Illinois where she resided. The staff there provided her with excellent, compassionate care. They often spoke to family about her sense of humor, her great story telling and her spunkiness. She often gave them reasons to laugh with her. The family sends a special thank-you to all who cared for her.

Lorene was born on May 11, 1922 in Salem, Arkansas to Edmond Ray and Manda Elizabeth (nee’ Charlton) Hatman. She married Howard Russell Adams on March 25,1939. They started their married life in Thayer, Missouri and then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In 1951 they moved to Chicago, Illinois and raised their 4 children Edward Russell, Nadine, Archie Howard, and Jerry Wayne. A stillborn son was buried in Missouri. Lorene was a homemaker.

When her husband retired from Finkle and Sons in 1978 they returned to Thayer, Missouri, the region where they both were born and raised, to enjoy retirement together. Howard died unexpectantly on November 9,1982. They spent 43 married years together. She never stopped talking about him.

Lorene moved back to Chicago in 2011 where she lived with her daughter Nadine and son-in-law, Jerry. In 2013 the signs of Alzheimer’s disease could not be ignored, and she moved into Alden Estates Nursing Home until her death.

Lorene is survived by her 3 children, Nadine (Jerry) Kuykendall of Chicago, Illinois, Archie Howard (Gayle) Adams of Nashville, Tennessee, and Jerry Wayne (Judith) Adams of Scottsdale, Arizona.

She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She had many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Edmond and Manda), her husband (Howard), her sons, (Baby Boy Adams and Edward Russell) and her 6 brothers and sisters.

Lorene will be buried next to her well-loved husband Howard in Koshkonong, Missouri. The Reverend Todd Williams will officiate at the gravesite. Her niece, Sis, will represent the family.  Services are under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2021 with details to follow. At that time, the family will gather to remember her and celebrate her life.
