Ava Carder

Ava Lou Carder, daughter of the late Cecil Hobert and Joyce Eula (Sutton) Sisney, was born January 1, 1938, in Lawndale, California, and passed away May 22, 2021, in West Plains, Missouri. She was 83 years, 4 months, and 21 days of age.

Ava attended school and graduated from Neodesha, Kansas, High School. She met Howard Carder while they were both working in Kansas City, Missouri. Ava and Howard were united in marriage June 30, 1957, in Cassville, Missouri. One daughter, Kim, was born to this union.

Ava always enjoyed working, volunteering for school projects, and helping others. When they retired, Howard and Ava enjoyed traveling in their RV to Texas and Branson. They always tried to stay healthy and went on daily walks together. They enjoyed visiting with their friends and neighbors along their walks, and they were known as the couple who always held hands.

They loved attending as many of their grandchildren’s games and events as they could. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Ava always enjoyed hosting her family and cooking for them as often as possible. She was also very close to her mother and her sisters, and they enjoyed all the time that they were able to spend together.

Besides her parents, Ava was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Carder, and three brothers-in-law, Jim Laverty, Harvey Carder and his wife, Florence, and Wayne Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Kim Dake and her husband, Mark, of West Plains, Missouri, three grandchildren, Merritt Dake and his wife, Lauren, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Miles Dake and his wife, Meredith, of Denver, Colorado, and Anne-Katherine Dake and her fiancé, Garrett Washington, of Rogers, Arkansas, five great-grandchildren, Margaret, James, Henry, Walter, and Braden, three sisters, Marilyn Laverty, Diana Spillman and her husband, John, and Judy Terry, one sister-in-law, Fern Smith, dear friend, Marimartha Kemper, and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many friends, church family, and camper buddies who will miss her.

Visitation will be held at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 1:30PM-2:30PM with funeral services following.
