Betty Jane Kimrey, age 89, went to be with her Lord on June 22, 2023 in Lebanon, Missouri. Born January 21, 1934 in Plato, Missouri to Tom and Sallie Kimrey.
Betty is survived by one brother, Perry Kimrey of Roby, MO; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, as well as many beloved friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Sallie Kimrey; brothers, Roy, Dave, Robert, Russell, Ed, Paul, and Charles; sisters, Mildred Swetman, Fern Ward, Cora McQueen, Faye McGuire, and Charlene Rippey.
Betty grew up and lived in the Plato area all her life. She attended Black Jack School and graduated Plato High School in 1952. After High School, Betty stayed home to care for her parents until their deaths. Betty then began her 27 yearlong career at Fort Leonard Wood for the Civil Service. After retirement she enjoyed babysitting her nieces and nephews, as well as area neighbors and friends. She loved going to all the Plato School activities, including ballgames, at home and away.
She was a member of the Plato Christian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was involved with all church activities and visited many church dinners, singings, revivals, as often as she could.
Betty was known as a wonderful baker. She baked several cakes and pies for many benefits and auctions (that were bought for ridiculous amounts). At Christmas time she made hundreds of cookies and gave them away as gifts. Sugar cookies were a specialty of hers, and each one was hand rolled to exactly the same size. Her chocolate cake was a favorite on everyone’s birthday. Even though Betty was never married, all her nieces and nephews and the kids who attended Plato School were always treated as her own. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. We will always cherish the fond memories we had with Betty.
A visitation for Betty will take place Monday evening, June 26, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Plato Christian Church. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Plato Christian Church. Burial will follow in Stark Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stark Cemetery in memory of Betty. Arrangements entrusted to Evans Funeral Home.
