Dolores Verbena Burr was born February 8, 1934, on the family farm in rural Fordland, Missouri, to Charles and Dorothy (Mincks) Burr. She passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
Dolores graduated from Fordland High School in 1952, and married her high school sweetheart Dean Matney on December 25, 1952.
After working in Kansas City for a few years, Dolores and Dean moved to Seymour, Missouri, and made it their permanent home. They were both devoted to their community and took every opportunity to promote their beloved town. Dolores was very active in the community, including serving on the Seymour Library Committee and volunteering at the Seymour History Museum. She was a volunteer every year for the Seymour Apple Festival, from the very first one to the 50th Annual Apple Festival.
Before macular degeneration and geographic atrophy took her sight, Dolores enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and playing cards and dominoes with family and friends.
She is survived by daughter, Kathy and husband, Ted McQueen, son, Brian Matney and wife, Julie, granddaughter, Alia and husband, Albert Lee, granddaughter, Whitney and husband, Lane Schrock. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Kieran Hall, Braedan Hall, Lake Schrock, and Lowen Schrock, as well as several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
