Donald Rex Halcomb

Donald Rex Halcomb, 79 years, 8 months, and 8 days old, passed away on, July 27, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri with family by his side.

Rex was born November 19, 1942 in Douglas County, Missouri in the family home on Boulder’s Fork in the High Lonesome Community to James Everett (Ebb), Sr. and Myra Elizabeth (Thomas) Halcomb.

Rex was a Christian and was saved when he was 9 years old.  He was baptised by Rev. Preston Maggard.  At a young age, he was a member and attended the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at High Lonesome.  Later he became a member of the Eastern Gate Missionary Baptist Church were he and his wife, Shirley attended.

Rex and Shirley Phillips were united in marriage on February 19, 1966 in Christian County, Missouri.

Rex retired from Associated Wholesale Grocers as a Clerk in the Cash and Carry Dept. in Springfield, MO. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting.  His two favorite fishing buddies were James Orick and David Halcomb.  He loved to coon hunt and raised a black and tan dog named, Ranger. Ranger was a Grand Night Champion. Rex won many coon hunting trophies over the years.  For over 30 years, Rex went elk hunting in Colorado.  He and Shirley enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending church together.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gordon Halcomb and wife, Dollye, Junior Halcomb, and an infant brother, William; sister, Sybil Harvill and husband, Oren; nephew, Gary Harvill; and niece, Shelley Parham.

Rex is survived by his wife, Shirley; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Jo and James Orick; sister-in-law, Betty Halcomb; three nephews and their spouses, David and Glenda Halcomb, Mickey and Debbie Harvill, and Bob and Gerty Harvill; four nieces and their spouses, Connie and John Siler, Shirley and Steve Clark, Vickie and Eddie(deceased) Murray, and Traci and Robbie(deceased) Thompson and many other relatives and friends.
