Donie Bridges, age 85 of Greer, MO was born February 28, 1939 near Greer, MO and passed away March 27, 2024 at Shady Oaks Healthcare. Donie was born the 3rd child to Clint and Glyna (Alcorn) Bridges.
From a young age he worked hard to support his family and learned the value of hard work. In 1962, he was drafted into the army and was stationed in Fort Carson, CO, where he received the Good Conduct medal and was honorably discharged. On July 17, 1966 he married Lillian (Watson) Bridges and they lived in St Louis where he worked for Combustion Engineering as a welder for two years, then they decided to come back to Greer in which Donie built their home. For 25 years he worked for L.S. Denning taking care of Greer Spring and cabins. He also worked for others welding, painting, and doing other handyman jobs, and worked alongside his son Patrick, passing on his hard work ethic to him. When Donie wasn’t working, he enjoyed being a jokester and could play the guitar, learning to play by ear. He also loved spending time with his grandson Gabe, going to the pawn shop where he would always get the best deal, and trading with others.
Survivors include his wife Lillian of the home, son Patrick (Jesse) of Greer, grandson Gabe, four sisters, Christine Cochran (Charlie) of Lanton, MO, Arlene Birmingham of Gassville, AR, Judy Jones of West Plains, MO, Cathy Crass (Jim) of Thayer and one brother Dennis Bridges of Greer.
Preceding him in death are his parents Clint and Glyna (Alcorn) Bridges, three brothers Joe Dale, Phillip and Carson Bridges and a sister Fern Gwaltney.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Hickory Grove Cemetery with Bro. Bob Wiggs officiating. Honorary pallbearers Doug Bridges, Kevin Bridges, Joey Bridges, P.D. Bridges, Richie Wallace, and David Todd.
