Doris June (West) Wilkins was born June 1, 1941, in Lake County, TN, to the late Odis and Mattie (Prince) West and departed this life Monday, May 27, 2024, at her residence in Gatewood, MO, at the age of 82.
Doris had worked at Jim Walter Homes with her husband for many years as well as Care Inn Nursing Home. She was also a foster parent for several years. Doris was a Christian woman who was always devoted to her faith and the selfless care of others. She was generous, kind, caring, and will be missed dearly by many.
Doris married Bobby Wilkins on June 5th, 1969, in Kennett, MO. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents; a son, Gary Don Wilkins; four brothers, Odell, Lloyd, Harvey, and Bruce West; and two sisters, Jeannette Edwards and Carrie “Sissy” Hancock.
Surviving are her sons, Jr. Young of Gatewood and Richard Wilkins of Doniphan; a daughter, Joany Reed of Bono, AR; seven grandchildren, Lindsey, Jordan, Cody, Haylee, Katie, Elijah, and Katherine; one great-grandson, Brantly; a brother, Larry West of Poplar Bluff, MO; nieces and nephews; and many foster children, friends, and other family members.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 30, 2024, beginning at noon with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Brother Clay Garvin will be officiating, and burial will be in New Home Cemetery.
