Dorothy June (Swafford) Stephens was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She left this world on Monday, October 18, 2021, at the age of 90.
She was the middle child born to David and Martha (Keyser) Swafford, on May 4, 1931, in Bemis, Tennessee. After moving to Birch Tree at a young age, she met her husband, Kenneth Stephens, and they married in Warrenton, Oregon. Together, they had six children, Ken, Sandy, Tammy, Mark, Becky, and Bob.
Dorothy loved spending time with family and friends. She spent many hours gardening and landscaping at her home before moving to the senior nursing facility in 2014.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Kenneth; sister, Nell; brother, Sonny (Walter); and her parents.
Surviving members of the family include her children, Ken and Mitzi Stephens of Sarasota, FL; Sandy and Bob Chaney of Kansas City, KS; Tammy and Larry Larimore of Republic, MO; Mark and Lisa Stephens of Mountain View, MO; Becky and Mark Conway of Mountain View, MO; and Bob and Amy Stephens of Springfield, MO; sixteen grandchildren Heather, Eric, Tara, Aubrey, Collin, Logan, Hailey, Seth, Dalton, Brett, Brook, Cameron, Makayla, Miles, Lydia, and Graham; and along with fifteen great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on October 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Forest Cemetery in Birch Tree, Missouri, with Father Jos Tharakan and Collin Larimore officiating, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Birch Tree. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This charity was a favorite of Dorothy’s, and she supported them for many years.
