Douglas Robert Conner was born on November 5th, 1962, to Laura Mae and Robert Lee Conner. He lived in Springfield, Missouri until he was eight and then moved to Willow Springs, Missouri where he resided for the remainder of his life. On July 26TH, 2021 Doug was called to his heavenly home after a three-week battle with COVID 19.
At the age of 23, Doug was set up on a blind date at the skating rink by his nieces. On that day in March 1986, Doug met the love of his life Linda Dawn (Kelley) Conner. Just four months later, on July 10th, 1986, Doug and Linda eloped to Hardy, Arkansas where a preacher who worked in the furniture store married them right next to the bedroom dressers and mattresses. They had a wedding the following month on August 29, 1986, in Willow Springs, Missouri. To this union two daughters were born, Janice Nicole in 1991, and Shaylee Marie in 1995.
Doug enjoyed working in his shop, riding his motorcycle, and traveling to see historical sights – especially those said to be haunted. Using his talent, he rebuilt his 1969 Pontiac GTO and 3 antique tractors and worked on many other miscellaneous projects. Many evenings after work were spent jamming to Pink Floyd in the shop while working with his hands. It seemed Doug could master anything he set his mind to, and some compared his work to turning a hunk of coal into a glistening diamond. On the weekends you would likely find him cruising in that orange GTO or riding with the wind in his face on his motorcycle. He was a gentle man and a man of few words but when he spoke people listened. Doug was reliable, honest, hardworking, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother Laura Conner, father Robert Conner, sister Susan Conner, brother Terry Conner, brother Albert Conner, and son-in-law TR Davis.
He is survived by his wife Linda Conner, stepmother Ruth Conner, brothers Wayne Conner, Steve Conner, Doyle Conner, and Shannon Conner, daughter Shaylee Welch and her husband Logan Welch, daughter Janice Davis, and grandchildren Lyla Davis, Haylee Davis, Jazmyn Davis, and Trustyn Davis, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
There will be a celebration of life for Doug Conner at his home in Willow Springs at 3262 County Road 5320 on Saturday August 7th at 6:00 pm. All are invited, dress casual, bring a lawn chair and a drink/side dish.
