Ethil was the baby out of six children. For being less than four and one half feet tall, she would give you a run for your money, and she had a contagious smile and an unforgettable laugh.

Ethil and Leon Lane were united in marriage in Douglas County, Missouri, on September 2, 1956, and to this union two sons were born, Marvin and Alvin.

Ethil worked some at the Douglas County sale barn as a cook and was a homemaker. She also traveled on road construction with her husband where she would cook for the road crew.  Ethil was a Christian and attended Murray Church and Thornfield House of Prayer where she was known for her helicopter move. Ethil enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, quilting and most of all spending time with her family. Ethil took great pride in helping raise her granddaughters Nina and Kellie.

Ethil was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Leon; one son Alvin; her parents William and Maggie; brothers, Sherman Fleetwood, Burney Fleetwood and Dave Fleetwood; sisters, Dorthy Plumb and Ella Doran;  a very special niece, Betty Hesterlee, whom she loved dearly.

Ethil is survived by one son, Marvin Lane; two granddaughters, Nina and spouse Cheryl Lane and Kellie and spouse Jerry Anderson; one grandson, Alvin Brown; four great grandchildren, Anthony Edgmon II, Alexis Edgmon, Wyatt Edgmon and Riley Welch; a host of step great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Tyler Reagan, Makenna McFarlin, Victoria James, Mason Curtis and David Edgmon, currently serving in the United States Navy stationed in Japan; sister in laws, Sylvia Fleetwood, Wanda Ray, Barbara Helms;  one brother in law, Charles Lane; many nieces, nephews, a host of relatives and many friends; a special nurse Paula Thornton, whom Ethil called, “Granny”; many caregivers at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare in Ava, where those who knew her well made sure she always had Dr. Pepper and honeybuns. She will be missed by all, but we take comfort knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven with loved ones.

Funeral services for Ethil will be Friday, February 23, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Missouri, with burial following in the Murray Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. Zach Hartgraves. Memorials may be made to the Murray Cemetery.
