Evelyn M. Jarrett

Evelyn Marie Rust Jarrett left this world on July 28, 2024, at the age of 84 years 1 month and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Gale Jarrett; her parents, Wayne and Mildred Rust and two siblings, Wayneth Bay and Michael Rust.

She came into this world June 20, 1940, and started her life on a dairy farm in Solo, Missouri. She lived, loved and laughed with her four siblings and extended family as well as developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The family later moved to Cabool where she met and married her husband of 63 years.

They began their life together in Kansas City, Missouri, where they added 3 children to complete their family. After living there for approximately 10 years, they moved back to Cabool where their family flourished and grew from 3 kids to 6 grand kids and 6 great grandchildren.

Evelyn’s life can best be encapsulated by five “F” words: family, friends, flowers, food, and fun. She always had time for her family and friends, most recently Mexican train and bingo with her lifetime best friend, Edith Wayland, and the senior train gang. Evelyn never met a flower she didn’t love. If anyone was to ever walk by her house and later her senior apartment, this would be obvious by the abundance of flowers decorating her home. Food was her love language. Her refrigerator was always stocked for her children and later grandchildren to come raid. It was not always filled with her choices of food, but surprisingly enough it always seemed to empty. Her mischievous smirk was well known, usually when she was getting ready to trash talk her competitors (aka her grandchildren) when playing Yahtzee. Her giggle and laugh brought a smile to any who heard it.

Evelyn leaves behind her 3 children: Edward (Brenda), Debra Whetstine (James), and Larry (Kathy) all of Cabool. She also leaves two siblings Carolyn Hanks (Galen) of Cabool and Robert Rust (Cathi) of Lake of the Ozarks.

The crowning glory for Evelyn was the arrival of grandchildren:  Jessica Brotherton (Adam) of Cabool, Jena and Joanna Whetstine, both of Bolivar, Jacob Whetstine (Laura) of Columbia, Mark Jarrett (Nicole) of West Plains and Sierra Carder (Dalton) of Cabool. Evelyn delighted in everything about her new role as a grandmother and made it a point to be as engaged as possible with her grandchildren. From babysitting, to sewing and cooking for them, from attending birthday parties and school performances to arranging field trips, Evelyn delighted in her grandchildren.

She leaves behind 6 great grandchildren: Holly and Faith Brotherton, James, Jordan, and Jackson Whetstine, and Ellie Jarrett.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Evelyn would express how grateful she was to have lived a long life full of wonderful experiences as well as a loving family and many good friends. She truly embodied the adage of a life well lived.
